RIBA Yorkshire Building of the Year announced
The Royal Institute of British Architects have announced Maggie’s Yorkshire as their 2022 Yorkshire building of the year at their regional awards.
The centre, designed by Heatherwick Studio, sits at the heart of St James’s University campus in Leeds and is the latest in a series of Maggie’s cancer support centres to have been created.
The creativity on display at the site is evident upon arrival with cascades of foliage running down its glazed facades and the use of materials such as whitewashed timber, glass and dark bronze coloured glazing and roof edging. This is expertly combined to create a friendly and welcoming aesthetic which is expanded upon via the open spaces of the interior which give a peaceful atmosphere.
St James is set for further development as we are currently working on a new energy centre for the hospital and work has begun onsite.
Congratulations to Heatherwick Studio and Maggie’s Yorkshire on a great project.
