Maggie's Centre Leeds
PARKdesigned had the pleasure of taking part in Leeds Society of Architects recent Building Tour of Maggies in Leeds. Mat Cash from Heatherwick Studio provided a full overview of the building from initial concept to final completion. The design and thought process that had gone into such a wonderful building was amazing to hear and see. It was clear from the way Mat spoke that the building was more than a building to Heatherwick Studios. Every detail had been thought about to make the building feel more like your own home rather than a commercial build. Amanda Procter from Maggie's Leeds also provided a perspective from the client which was lovely to hear. Thank you to LSA for organising such a wonderful tour. Congratulations to Heatherwick Studio and Maggie's Leeds for creating such an amazing piece of architecture in Leeds.
Leeds Society provided the below text prior to the tour.
Drawing upon the philosophy of Maggie's and the belief that great design can help people feel better, this is the 26th centre built by the charity to provide support for people affected by cancer.
Built in 2019 on the campus of the St James’s Hospital in Leeds, this revolutionary new healthcare building was designed by world-renowned designers Heatherwick Studio.
This immersive tour will be hosted by Ben Pipkin, Co-President of the Leeds Society of Architects and once again uses pioneering Matterport 3D scanning technology to recreate the building in a virtual model. We are excited to be welcoming Mat Cash, Partner and Group Leader at Heatherwick Studio and Amanda Procter, Maggie's Leeds, as we explore the building from the perspective of the client and design team.
