The Wakefield Civic Society Design Awards
PARKdesigned recently received two commendations by The Wakefield Civic Society for The Manor House project in Wakefield. The commendations were in the Best Residential Development and Best Refurbishment category. The Manor House was built in 1849 for a former butchers son and was later turned into a Maternity Hospital and also formed part of a University Campus. In its recent years it was left to ruin before being transformed into 16 units.
The Wakefield Civic Society Design Awards is an event held annually by the Wakefield Civic Society to recognize and celebrate outstanding architecture and design projects within the Wakefield district.
The awards cover a range of categories, including new buildings, restoration, conservation, public art, and environmental sustainability. They aim to encourage high standards of design and construction, as well as to promote public awareness and appreciation of the built environment.
Entries are judged by a panel of experts in architecture, design, and planning, who evaluate the projects based on their design quality, sustainability, contextual appropriateness, and contribution to the local community.
The Wakefield Civic Society Design Awards have been running since 1989 and have recognized many significant projects over the years, including the Hepworth Wakefield Gallery, Wakefield One, and Wakefield Cathedral. The awards have helped to raise the profile of Wakefield as a center of excellence for design and architecture and have contributed to the improvement of the built environment in the district.
