Study Walk around Leeds
PARKdesigned recently took a study walk around Leeds City Centre visiting some of the major developments being constructred. The three main visits on our walk were the Climate Innovation District, Saxton Gardens Energy Centre and the Vita student accommodation.
The first visit was at the Climate Innovation District. A 2 hour tour was provided by Becky from CITU of the on-site development of more than 500 new low carbon homes alongside manufacturing, leisure and offices. The £125m scheme is a key part of the South Bank of Leeds re-development. 15 acres of brownfield land will be turned into a new low carbon residential development with a mix of 1,2,3 and 4 bedroom ‘family houses based around a European model of medium density urban housing’. The development was fantastic to see especially the low carbon housing and the new connection bridge.
Following this visit PARKdesigned walked over to the new Energy Centre at Saxton Gardens which receives the low temperature hot water from our newly constructed Energy Centre at Cross Green. The energy centre that PARKdesigned were part of will convert 20MW of steam from the RERF into low temperature hot water and pump this along the transmission line that will pass through the Saxton Gardens Energy Centre. It was amazing to see the intricate work of the pipes within the buildings that PARKdesigned have helped build.
After lunch at the Midnight Bell the office ventured over to Vita student accommodation. An all access visit was provided to see the cinema room, gym and student accommodation. The level of finish was fantastic. Student accommodation has definitely changed over the years!
Other memorable buildings that were visited were the new extension and renovations to West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds Art University and Nexus.
PARKdesigned would like to thank Vital Energi, CITU and Vita for their guided tours.
