Residential Conversion Wakefield

PARKdesigned have begun work converting a derelict building into apartments. The existing building was once a luxury home owned by the McPhail family with tennis courts, an orangery and abundant gardens. Hugh McPhail bought the house circa 1891 after selling his shipping businesses, coal mines and forest land in Glasgow and Belfast. In around 1930 the mansion became doctors quarters for Wakefield Hospital until 1992 when it became part of Leeds University Drama and Arts campus. Sadly it has been left derelict for over 10 years and was in a very bad state of disrepair. One major issue that years of neglect caused was that the existing roof had fallen through the building and cause some terrible damage.

The building has some amazing features which we will try and retain but unfortunately the pub in the basement is going to have be removed!
