Cladding Remediation and Fire Safety Upgrades at Mill Royd Mill, Brighouse

At PARKdesigned Architects, we continue to expand our specialist services in cladding remediation and fire safety design, with one of our current projects focusing on remedial works at Mill Royd Mill in Brighouse. This converted mill comprises a mixture of apartments forming part of West Yorkshire’s architectural heritage. As part of our ongoing commitment to building safety, we are replacing combustible materials to all balconies and the bin store to ensure compliance with current fire safety regulations.

Our work at Mill Royd Mill is representative of our broader expertise in building safety and façade remediation services, where we offer detailed architectural oversight from initial investigation through to completed delivery. This includes reviewing external wall systems (EWS1), material specification, and construction detailing to eliminate combustible elements, enhance fire performance, and ensure resident safety.

Replacing Combustible Materials with Compliant, Non-Combustible Alternatives

The remediation strategy for Mill Royd Mill focuses on the removal of combustible cladding and decking materials originally used in balcony construction, alongside fire-risk components within the bin store enclosure. These are being replaced with non-combustible products in line with the latest guidance from the Building Safety Act and PAS 9980.

The project team has worked closely with fire engineers, façade consultants, and contractors to ensure that the remedial works achieve technical compliance while respecting the architectural character of the existing mill structure.

Part of a Growing National Portfolio of Cladding Remediation Projects

Mill Royd Mill forms part of our wider national portfolio of fire safety remediation and architect-led cladding replacement projects, which includes large-scale residential and hospitality buildings across the UK. Our current portfolio includes both hotel and large-scale residential schemes, including developments comprising approximately 600 and 800 beds respectively

Each project brings unique technical challenges, requiring bespoke architectural responses and close coordination with building owners, managing agents, and fire safety consultants.

A Proactive, Technical Approach to Fire Safety

At PARKdesigned, we recognise that cladding remediation is more than a regulatory requirement — it is a critical opportunity to improve the long-term safety, performance, and value of buildings. We deliver this through rigorous technical assessment, clear communication with stakeholders, and a design-led approach that respects the architectural integrity of each project.

Whether you are a building owner, asset manager, or contractor seeking an experienced team to lead remediation works, PARKdesigned offers comprehensive architectural services tailored to the full remediation process — from initial surveys and design proposals, through to planning, technical specification, and site delivery.
