about the project

PARKdesigned were commissioned by Primal to create a new gym in Leeds. The gym is located in the heart of Leeds Dock on ‘my street‘ just a stones throw from the Royal Armouries. Primal has a revolutionary new approach to health and fitness that is focused entirely on you enjoying your gym and getting results, the membership costs is cheaper the more you go. The design of the gym was to follow Primals philosophy and provide a gym that is something raw and different. The exposed services, slot windows, mesh walls and feature concrete walls offer a fantastic environment to work out in.

Challenge

Primal Gym is an excellent example of how Park Designed has delivered a custom built end-to-end gym solution, to include bespoke ideas and personalisation. Primal is located at Leeds Dock, West Yorkshire, England – a thriving mixed development with retail, office, residential and leisure presence. Faced with an empty shell of around 11,000 square feet over two floors, without heat, light or water, the Primal team considered a number of fit-out options. The challenge was to find an architect that ‘understood our ethos and shared our passion for success.’

Primal selected Park Designed to deliver a complete gym solution with flexibility for customisation and personalisation of product. ‘We really bought into the interest and enthusiasm of Ed and James. Our approach to fitness delivery is forward thinking and innovative. We are not your average gym and we wanted a supplier that shared our values. Nothing was too difficult. They brought their expertise in delivering an end to end product covering everything a build requires including everything that we hadn’t even thought about, there really is so much that Park Designed brought to the project. They were flexible and accommodating and added greatly to our own ideas and experience.’ Primal Gym opened its doors to members in December 2014.
