PARKDESIGNED, LEEDS

Founded: July 2011

Main people: Edward Park and James Park

Where have you come from? Ed worked at Aedas and Cartwright Pickard. James was at Architecture 519 and P+HS Architects, each in a range of sectors, in the UK and abroad.

What work do you have? We have a range of projects in different sectors, from the refurbishment of a Grade II-listed mill (pictured) and office fit-outs to private residential and restaurant design. When we set up our practice our one rule was to work with good people on good projects. Our ethos and attitude will remain the same regardless of size or scale.

What are your ambitions? To grow methodically and sustainably. Currently, we are a Northern firm and this will always be our base, but we would potentially like to open a second office in London. We want to be known for an open studio approach that ensures each project receives thorough investigation and analysis, resulting in a bespoke solution.

How optimistic are you? Very optimistic, though it is tough at the moment and we wouldn’t like to put a date on when the recession will end. However, we will continue to work hard and, with positive client feedback providing future referrals, we hope to grow. When we set up we made a point of visiting our former practices to pick the directors’ brains for help in avoiding the stumbling blocks that might come our way.
