Generative AI in Architecture

At PARKdesigned Architects, we are constantly looking for innovative ways to push the boundaries of architectural practice. On Thursday, we undertook an excellent hands-on training session on Generative AI led by Keir Regan-Alexander from Arka Works.

The session focused on how architects can integrate AI into daily workflows, enabling us to work smarter and more creatively.

This 5-hour session provided our team with a comprehensive introduction to the Generative AI Toolset. We explored Large Language Models (LLMs) and their applications in everyday practice, such as streamlining tasks like bid writing and generating detailed report summaries for architectural use. We also explored image-making platforms like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion, gaining valuable insights into how these tools can help us represent early design ideas with greater clarity and control through advanced prompting techniques.

Key takeaways from the training included:

  1. A working knowledge of how Generative AI is reshaping the field of architecture and how we, as architects, can best leverage these tools to enhance our work.

  2. Practical fluency in the best uses of LLMs to streamline processes such as writing bids and reports, and how to create custom solutions using these models.

  3. An understanding in diffusion image platforms, such as Midjourney.

  4. A broad understanding of advanced platforms like Stable Diffusion, which allow for transformative design processes, including generating images from sketches in context.

After the session, we were provided with a series of 19 downloadable resources that will continue to support our practice after the training. These resources, which cover key settings and repeatable processes, allow us to further understand and test AI-driven workflows into our ongoing projects.

We are very grateful to Keir Regan-Alexander at Arka Works for sharing his expertise and guiding us through this exciting new era. The potential of AI in architecture is vast, and we are excited to explore how these tools can not only enhance our productivity but also elevate the creativity and innovation that define PARKdesigned.

This training is just the beginning of our journey in integrating AI into architectural practice, and we are looking forward to applying these new techniques and insights across our future projects.
