 About the project

Muntons Energy Centre is a biomass power plant located in Stowmarket, Suffolk, in the east of England. The plant was developed by Muntons, a malted ingredients manufacturer.

The Muntons Energy Centre generates electricity and heat using renewable biomass fuels such as malted barley, wheat, and oats, as well as straw and wood chips. The facility uses a combined heat and power (CHP) system, which means that it generates both electricity and heat at the same time. The electricity is used to power the Muntons' factory, while the heat is used to dry malt and provide heating for the factory and nearby homes.

The Muntons Energy Centre is an example of a sustainable and environmentally friendly energy source. Biomass power plants generate electricity from renewable sources, which helps to reduce carbon emissions and reliance on non-renewable sources such as coal and gas. Muntons' use of agricultural waste as a fuel source also provides a valuable opportunity for farmers to generate additional income from their crops.

Overall, the Muntons Energy Centre has been a successful example of how businesses can incorporate renewable energy sources into their operations to reduce their environmental impact and achieve sustainable growth.
